Very good 3 points in the worst conditions ive ever played in.
We started very well and should have been 4 up but for two great saves from Courtney in goal for Easington, after going 2 up Easington started popping the ball about really well and put us under alot of pressure and were rewarded after 44 minutes when yet again we conceded off a set play.

2nd half it became a battle, we began winning 2nd ball again, Courtney pulled off another great stop from Matty Hornsby before we sealed the game with 15 left, Dan Smith scoring and then with 2 minutes left me added a 4th.

Very good win, both teams knocked it about well, midfield 2 for Easington Toddy and Huntley were very good first half but 2nd half wernt in the game.

Birtley 4-1 Esington

Good win in awful conditions. Worked hard and defended well. Hoops roll on to Darlo RA a week on sat. I think by that game the table will have a proper shape to it as most of the other teams will have played all of their games in hand, so both teams should know if they still have any hope of getting top 3. Could make it a massive game for both teams!

In all honesty ourselves and RA only had a tiny chance of going up, but for both sides a top 6 finish would be a massive improvement on previous seasons and for us our best finsih since coming into the NL.

Yes your right mate, RA now can't go up mathematically and we are relying on Morpeth losing 3 of the last 4 games and hebburn or Gilford losing 4 games! Not gonna happen really and then we would still need to win 3 very tough remaining games. Looking at the table realistically we now have to target 5th and keep everything crossed that one or two of the teams around us implode under the pressure of promotion expectation. Rueing being robbed by the ref at Esh and a below par performance against Alnwick now!

I was talking to Baz and Scotty after the Easington on Tuesday and its a superb run we are on losing only once to Crook in 17 or 18 games. Obviously the poor start to the season has really cost us but having said that if somebody had have offered Birtley a top 6 position at the start of the season they would have taken it.

Like every club going for promotion we can point to games and decisions but its over 42 games we have just missed out, but in 95% of games we have performed very well, obviously i didnt see us in the first few months prior to signing. From a personal point of view ive really enjoyed this season, nearly as much as my time at Esh first time round, Scotty and Baz have assembled a good young side with me and Scotty G taking the average age up, we have a great bunch who all get on, no poison in the dressing room and i hope that we stick together and improve next season and who knows.
