Just back from another visit to Dean Street my field of dreams. The welcome I and other visitors receive is second to none. There is a genuine bond between the players fans and management which can been demonstrated by the loyalty shown by Gary Stuart and a group of players who have stayed loyal to the club. Gary for instant came and sat reading the Northern Echo/chatting to the fans an hour before kick off. At Dean Street and other Northern League grounds the atmosphere and banter are generally first class . On my travels I have made friendships that will last for life. The Vase run starts again and that along with the FA Cup has us visiting new grounds and like minded supporters. The days out in recent years to places such as Colne (Theyres only one Butch Dingle) Garforth Stourbridge Brantham Ascot all hold fond memories as do earlier visits to Hichin Ormskirk etc in the 70s. In my opinion Northern League is the best value football product in the land.

Have to agree. Coming late to the party, I instantly fell in love the community spirit of the Northern League and the strong bond between players, fans and officials at clubs. The football is of a high standard too. But that affinity and closeness is everything football should be - at every level. I was strangely ambivalent about this year's Vase, until the draw was made, and then suddenly it was real again. I'm really looking forward to Consett in a few hours time and then the week can't go quick enough before that Vase match. It is quite honestly every bit as electrifying as travelling across Europe following Celtic.
