After yet another cancellation we plan to travel up to play AFC Newbiggin in a league game. With the snow and sleet though, I've lost count of the number of fingers I've got crossed!

Our hosts have had an up and down season with some great results mixed in with heavy defeats, and their last outing was a 2-1 home win against North Shields Athletic. AFC Newbiggin currently sit one place and one point above us but have played 4 games more.

Our game last week was called off due to the weather so we're still looking to get some momentum going from our recent cup win. Our league position doesn't look very good but surely once we play our games in hand we'll pick up points that will put us towards the top 6.

Kick off is scheduled for 2pm and the pitch is Newbiggin Sports Centre, NE64 6HG

AFC Newbiggin 4-0 Rutherford

This was our heaviest defeat in 3 years as we lost our way in the 2nd half and turned in a strange performance.

From the kick off we dominated and created chance after chance with the closest effort smacking off the bar. However, we failed to score as shots became more wayward.

At the other end the home side hadn't mustered up a single effort on goal but that sharp changed after the restart as they opened the scoring on 46 mins.

The lead was doubled as our defence went missing instead of helping our keeper, who was forced into conceding a penalty. The penalty was saved but the rebound tapped in.

Goals 3 and 4 followed as we fell apart with lots of head scratching from players and management alike. Passes were sloppy, crosses were fluffed and shots were shanked.

But we haven't become a bad team overnight and need to treat this as blip otherwise the excellent form we had earlier in the season could become a distant memory. The onus is on the players to recover and focus properly at training and show everyone what they're made of. I'm sure they will.

Update.

It has been deemed by the League Committee that an unregistered player was used by AFC Newbiggin in this match and therefore the result has been reversed to a 1-0 win for us. Hands up who wants to claim the goal!
