Another tough game for us as we play Hebburn Town Reserves this Friday night.

The game is for a place in Round 2 of the Durham Trophy - something we last won in 2007 - and a tough game against the Wearside League leaders stands in our way.

Hebburn are on a 9 game winning streak and their last game was a 4-3 victory at South Shields Reserves. They also have ex-Ford player Ricky Tanoh on their books although he is yet to feature for them.

Our last game was a victory too as we beat New Fordley 3-2 in which new striker Stephen Matthew scored two.

The game will be played at Hebburn Sports Complex, NE31 1UN. Kick off is 7:30pm and must be finished on the night.

Hebburn Town Reserves 1-4 Rutherford

Outstanding performance by us tonight as our boys hit a level that proves they've got it in them to reach new highs.

Despite losing Stephen Matthew 2 hours before kick off, we started very organised and absorbed some early pressure. The referee was very lenient with some awful challenges on our keeper and it looked like it could be a long night.

But then we started to get a grip of the game and took the lead on 22 mins. A quickly taken free kick by Robert Jefferson from 28 yards gave the home keeper no chance. But then a very poor decision 5 mins later gave the Wearside League leaders a lifeline. Andy Gowing was clearly fouled inside our box but the ref waved play on, meaning Sam Hodgson had to make a last-ditch tackle. A penalty was awarded and despatched for 1-1.

2nd half was our best performance of the season. We bossed the game and Robert Cummings finished a good move for 2-1 on 49 mins.

Hebburn threw everything at us but our excellent defence restricted them to long range shots, all of which missed the target.

At the other end, fullback Callum Moore ended up playing striker and his fine finish on 85 mins gave us a 3-1 lead, quickly followed by a superb effort from Cummings for his 2nd and our 4th on 87 mins.

The drama wasn't finished as the Hebburn midfield (and bench) singled out Jefferson and they got what they wanted when the referee issued a red card.

This didn't dampen a thoroughly deserved win though and all of our boys and managed deserved full credit.

Team: Tottle, Gowing, Spoor, Hodgson, Young, Cummings, Watson (Moore), Fullen, Tench (Moody), Jefferson, Leighton-Winder
Goals: Jefferson, Cummings 2, Moore
MoM: Cummings
