Probably one the the toughest seasons I've known where it became apparent to me how off-the-field issues can affect the playing side.

The season had barely started when we lost Steve Coxon after his valiant battle with cancer. I can't express how big a blow this was and at times it was hard to regroup. But regroup we did as that's exactly what Steve would have wanted.

By this time players were still having the 'Northern League carrot' dangled in front of them by other clubs and it was disappointing to see players move on despite spending the summer with us. And this made manager Mick's job even harder so it was no surprise our form was indifferent.

But whilst the results weren't going our way, the scorelines were always tight and teams had to work hard to get something out of us. We managed to grab a handful of wins and also reached the quarter finals of the Durham Trophy.

And then as the season ended we found our form! Draws away to Newcastle Uni and Ponteland Utd were followed up with 2 wins against Ashington and finally Northbank. In our last two games it was 2 wins, 10 goals scored, 0 conceded! Now that's something to work and build on!

The committee would like to thank Mick Watson for his excellent work, along with Paul, Kev and Walter. They're vital members of our club and did a sterling job in very tough times. It was also particularly pleasing to see Mark Pae return to the club after a successful tenure at neighbours Birtley Town. After being relieved of his duties Mark had a number of options but chose his home club, Rutherford, and he's had an excellent impact.

So once again, thanks for Mick, Paul, Mark, Kev and Walter as well as all players, especially those who stuck with us through the entire season. They'll all be one year wiser now and this will give Mick something to work with.

Finally, congratulations to all of our opponents who ended with silverware this season, especially Killingworth Town for finishing champions and being the best team this season.
