Thought the new lads did really well today against Thornaby [who were a tidy side]. Sewell and Adibe slotted in well in midfield and Oshin took his chance superbly.

And five first teamers still to come back into the squad.............looking good :D

Well i thought the first half was even and we looked tired in the second half and you guys scored two goals. All the best for the season. I think that you guys will have a good season

Thanks Matthew.

I also thought the 1st half was very even, maybe even shaded by Thornaby in terms of possession. However, I was very happy with our fitness levels for the 2nd half as I believe we were able to dictate the game a bit more.

I thought Thornaby had 3 standout players - No.9 worked his socks off and linked well. No.5 oozed class and the fullback did really well (played on the right 1st half). Sorry I don't know names!

All the very best to all at Thornaby, always welcome at Rutherford.

Rutherford 2 Leam Rangers 2.
Andy Reay and Chris Morris for us.
Really good game to watch, both sides playing good football. Best wishes to Leam for the forthcoming Wearside League season.

Rutherford 0-4 Whickham

Tough workout for us against a young side who worked their socks off. Things went against us from well before the game with all 3 keepers unavailable, and even the attempt to 'borrow' a keeper not getting off the ground. Ross Taylor volunteered to go in the nets despite being in the early stages of his recovering from a knee injury.......and then the tractor broke so we couldn't cut the grass!

Put that all aside though, Whickham scored a good header before the 2nd goal was lobbed in. The 3rd goal stunned everyone a bit as maybe it was a foul on Taylor before it was put in the net, but the 4th goal was really good skill.

For our attack, Chris Morris had an excellent header well saved before he crashed a volley against the underside of the bar. Graeme Troughton then went on a run but sent his shot just wide of the post.

Thanks again James, although at times we looked like an under 18 side (a good one at that) we had a lot more senior players involved than we have had this pre season, and yes the grass was a bit long which cant be helped, but overall a good runout for both sides.

We hope you have a good season as its a smashing set up at Rutherford..

Ah, yes Les. What I meant to say is that Whickham are a good side containing some cracking young players. I was really impressed and although I haven't seen Whickhm that often over the last few years, it does look like one of the better Whickham sides I've seen of late.

I was really happy with the test Whickham gave us, really stretching our play and making my players work hard, so all in all a good game.

Best of luck for 2012/2013, but something tells me you'll not need it! I think you'll do really well.

Final friendly ended in a 4-4 draw with Brandon Utd.

A crazy game really with Brandon leading 3-1 and 4-2 at times, but the pleasing thing for us is that we kept going and carved out chances that eventually lead to 2 more goals for us.

Thanks Matthew. Likewise I always look for Thornaby's results.

We've one more training session to go then I'm happy that we're prepared for this season, even if we have a handful still on holiday for the opener.

It's always good to play Thornaby in pre-season as your lads are top notch and always give a really good game. Best of luck and hopefully i'll get to watch when you visit local clubs like Whickham/Birtley etc
