Does anyone know where i can play some friendlies for my team on sunday mornings?
i have games arranged but our pitch doesnt seem to be getting cut , and i drove around on saturday and looks like a few pitches not been cut.maybe cause of the bad weather, this is the first time i have had this problem.
I have had to cancel two friendlies already, have the games lined but us and our oppostion cannot seem to play on our pitches.

Normally if you have the pitch booked you can request for the grass to be cut if it's council run, once it's been cut the council only allow requests to be re-cut after 10 days.

to be honest normally in our area they do not like fixtures before two weeks before the season starts as they say they are doing maintainance and thats why pitches are normall left but i agree with post above just ring them and ask you never know

Just been advised that Durham County Council are considering an embargo on pre-season friendlies due to the adverse weather and and the effect of playing on wet pitches and knock-on effects at start of season.

Strange that they are going to let the russell foster league play all the way through the summer, when they move to a winter break.

When will the pitches recover then, they must be unaware that grass does not grow in the winter???

I assume Durham County Council will be reducing their rental fees accordingly if they are not going to allow teams to use their pitches for the full rental period. You would't rent a house from someone for 8 months and expect to pay for renting it for 9 now would you?

I did contact the council over two weeks ago asking for pitch to be cut and book ptich, as that is what i normally do during season and always been cut, i said had some games lined up, i got an email back saying ok of the normal person i deal with, then got another email 5 minutes later saying "the supervisor wont allow pitch to be cut as no games should be taking place on pitch untill 12-8-2102 so there will be no maintenace at all on pitch untill nearer that date"
I have never had this problem before and i thought when paid for a council pitch it was all year round not from middle of august untill first week in may.

I have heard this too although not direct from the council as yet! We have played on the same pitch at the northern area since 1999 yet the council have not had the courtesy to discuss any of this with us or any other club for that matter! With a month until the season begins we are left in limbo with no idea if and where we will get a pitch in the local area.

Whilst I think the communication from the council is poor, unfortunately the problem is related to budgets! Unfortunately governments and local authorities see local leisure activities as a waste of money so have put the money elsewhere! Ironic that on one hand they complain about the cost of healthcare yet On the other hand make sporting activities harder to access even though fitness activities improve public health!

Sorry to bring politics into it but the whole thing from communication from the council to the facilities being taken away really p****s me off

Yes sunderland council aint brightest....all teams using there pitches must now maintain the changing rooms as from the coming season....i asked for a reduced fee for doing the extra work after games!! Was told no chance and the fees are going up.
