I was told last night at the Stockton Sunday League AGM by our league secretary that rolling subs will be permitted in the Durham cup this season

Considering all but one league has rejected the rule, I think this is a bad decision by the DFA.

I don't know how many subs you are allowed to name and play. It could be up to 7!

The information that I have received from Durham FA in respect of HF Cup is as follows

Unless the option of 7 off roll on/ roll off subs is incorporated into the competition rules then only 3 subs are allowed.I would be surprised if any league has been given a dispensation on this rule which is no doubt a mandate from the FA and outside direct control of Durham.

Well apparently DFA have chosen to use it in all competitions bar the Challenge cup, if I remember rightly

No doubt we'll soon find out

Totally a bad idea but that's Durham for you.how can the referee keep an eye on how many players are on the pitch at anyone time????!!!!. And for leagues playing finals on a Friday night , just another bad idea as some teams struggle to get players there, for me you play ya games on a Sunday apart from early start to the season and near the end but that's not an Friday night is it.so why don't you play final on a Sunday and then you may even get bigger crowds watching the games.

Interesting that the leagues had to put it to a vote to the clubs to go ahead with the 7 rolling subs. Did Durham FA actually put it to a vote of their member clubs. The only league i have heard who are doing it is the Spennymoor league. Makes a bit of a joke of the competition in my opinion.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. It kind of dillutes the competition really for me!

I can't confirm whether we can name and play 7 subs or not, but I'm just annoyed that DFA have gone ahead with the rolling subs despite clear objections from all it's members!

As i said earlier only one league agreed to this and i think that was not put to a vote, the league secretary just agreed in his infinite wisdom. Is suppossed to be an experiment to see if having 7 repeat subs would increase participation at a local level. I have a feeling that after 2 years it will be scrapped and we will be back to playing by the proper rules.

If they are going to enforce this rule, we're gonna need linesman on both sides as a minimum to help the ref, and possibly even a 4th official to stop it becoming a complete farce. And even then I'm note sure it wouldn't turn into a farce. Maybe there trying to create a role for the 4th official in football who's role up until now remains a mystery!?

All in all a stupid idea. I hope a team like Hetton with the players they can attract turn up with the best 18 players around and abuse the rolling subs to death until the powers that be realise how silly it is.
