Well i think a cap of 35 has all clubs on a level footing.

Its different in the Gateshead league then. In the DDSL you dont state a squad of 25. You have to sign a minimum of something like 14 players I think before the start of the season. Then previoulsy you could have signed another 300 theoretically.

The league management committee explained everything including the issue about (as far as we are all aware) not being able to de-register/ replace players transferred out if 35 player limit has already been reached. So if it it does become an issue for anyone who voted in favour then they can only blame themselves really, hopefully it wont come to that though.

35 players is ample imo

I agree, clubs just need to change the habit of signing on so many players at the start of the season. I think its reasonable to sign around 25 players at the start of the season who are likely to play and reserve another 10 registrations for when they are needed.

Totally agree, when you look on the website for last season there were clubs that had 40.50 and 60 players signed but only 25 played!

A level playing field??? Hetton will still win the league etc with only 35 players registered.
It isn't going to be much of a level playing field if a team can only play 10 or so players if thats all they have available!!

Yes I know that not many teams used over 35 players last season etc but as quite a few people have already said on here you never know what going to happen throughtout a season.

Most of the clubs voted YES to the rule because they have never used 35 players before, that is fine but they have not consider other clubs who have. We will change things at our club and won't just sign any tom, dick or harry on.
We will have to use the signing players on the day rule more this season (for league games only) and hopefully we'll have a more settled team than we have over the last few season.

At the end of the day if it does affect teams later on in the season then they have 3 choices:
1) Play the game with however many registered players they have available
2) Forfeit the game resulting in a 3-0 victory for the opposition
3) Play unregistered players and hope for the best (btw we will not be considering this option)

Hold on a minute, why should clubs who have a vote consider any other club? The clubs all had a vote and the vote was in favour.

All clubs were sent out before the AGM the rule that was proposed :
New Rule.
Proposed by Pelton Roab
Seconded By Brandon Sports
I .would like to propose to put a cap on the amount of players a single club can register during a playing season. I think a fair proposal will be a maximum of 35 players during a season.

this was accepted nothing at all about de-registering etc

so all clubs new the rule and can only blame themselves for not looking at it ,so doesnt really matter what people said if they looked at it and thought about it ,it was open to all sorts of problems if it had said if you deregister a player you can add one more then that might have been better but there you go rules are rules .Personally I dont think it will make loads of difference to most teams and if anything the teams with loads of players will just register there best ones making it harder for us smaller clubs .

The rule will create a pool of good players to be available for registration. Hetton had over 70 players registered, and i would think that such a quality team would only register quality players. This means that over 35 quality players are available to play for other teams and that is just from one team.
