Durham County Cup

Peterlee Helford FC 4-3 Barley Mow Club

A game the Barley should have won comfortable but the intimidation of players and especially the referee tipped it in Peterlee`s favour. From start to finish the abuse towards the referee was unbelievable and thats why maybe he kept his card in his pocket until the 75th minute after some terrible tackles. Peterlee`s number 8 had a good game and dominated the Barley midfield and they had someone called Devine? or Devoid? up front who just wanted to fight everyone. If they get a home draw next with a young inexperienced ref again they could go far. An experienced ref would have changed the outcome maybe especially the final goal but this young ref wouldnt dare blow the whistle for fear of all the abusive support on the touchline.

Todays game in the end was a fair result, helford had their chances to end the game in the first half but didnt take their chances, as for the ref the helford lads thought more decisions went the other way, helford are a physical side but to be fair just being just physical doesnt win you games and a side thats has only been beaten once in 2010 and 2011 clearly has a lot of quality and the end reslut brought no complaints from the barley boys

I think when your manager just before kick off says "lets have a leg broken in the first 5 minutes", and then proceeds to be the cheerleader with his roal moat lookalike for the next 90 minutes in questioning every decision by the ref, sums it up.

Young ref, although probably quite good in a lower league, undoubtably out of his depth, helford took advantage of that.

In 30 years of non-league football, i have seen nothing like it, makes me wonder why i give time up when you come up against sh!te like that.

And as for the carpet carrying Number 9, as mentioned before, when a ref with balls gets you in a later round, he will have an early bath, wanting to fight the line is laughable, however is your defence we were warned what to expect.

Maybe someone from the FA may attend their next round and see what they bring to the game.
