Full time score Guisborough Town 1-0 Thornaby FC League Cup Round 1

Thornaby made the short trip to the KGV stadium with the winners playing Team Northumbria in the next round.Thornaby got off to a great start when Shaun Joseph whipped in a corner which needed to be cleared off the line by a Guisborough defender and Shaun Joseph then tried to play in a cross but he miss hit it and it almost went in with Escritt in the Guisborough goal beaten. The Teessiders were on top and Richie Walker hit a shot which Escritt had to save.Guisborough then took the lead very much against the run of play when a long ball out of defence found Luke Bythway who beat two defenders and curled a shot in the corner with O'Rourke beaten with 38 minutes gone, the home sides only shot on target !

Half Time Guisborough 1-0 Thornaby FC

Thornaby continued to dominate in the second half when Adam Kidson fired wide. Luke Bythway then headed over and the Priorymen midfielder Lewis Wood fired wide. Thornaby lost centre back Steve Morrison with an injury early in the half with Darren Morton moving to the back and brought on Danny Lofts in midfield who got a good shot on target almost immedialtely , then Adam Kidson hit a free kick which Escritt spilt and it was cleared away. Luke Bythway had an half chance and fired wide.Thornaby were very busy and taking the game to their first divison opponents when Shaun Joseph hit a shot which Escritt saved well and the blue's kept up the pressure when Joseph once again played in a cross and new signing David Howe headed over. Thornaby sub Danny Lofts hit a shot which Escritt saved.as the visitors pressed for an deserved equaliser then Guisborough then had an opportunity when Adam Gell played the ball back and Luke Bythway fired wide. Danny Lofts once again fired wide with Guisborough hanging on and defending in the last minute Bryan Stewart hit a shot which O'Rourke made a good save.An very pleasing display from the second division side who could easily gone through with better finishing

Well thought we were very unlucky not to win last night to be honest as we passed the ball around well and created a few chances and we played well at the back and limited them to a few chances . Well done lads you played well it was a pleasure to watch last night and you guys should be proud of yourselfs. Looking forward to the game on saturday against Washington come on Thornaby!

When Luke scored in the first half, was that a chance as well? It doesn't say?

Thought Thornaby played well and can feel unlucky that they didn't get more out of the game, although thought you were lucky to keep 11 players on the pitch. Their number 8 could have had 3 yellows and a red for stamping!

On last nights performance i'm sure you lads will start moving up the table, good luck for the rest of the season.
