with several players missing for various reasons , and youth team players Michael Bond and Andrew Gardner making debuts, Thornaby started this game well and deservedly took the lead when the hard working Gary Mitchell latched on to through ball by Keenan and slotted home, the home side were struggling to get any rythmn going and Thornaby were passing the ball well and the home keeper made a couple of good saves from the impressive Danny Lofts and Rob Keenan,then from an attacking corner towards the interval Whitehaven broke away and although the Thornaby players were appealing the ball had gone out over the touchline , the ball was played back and tapped in for an undeserved equaliser from a lack lustre home side,who could easily have been two down with an obvious hand ball missed by the referee in the area ( which to his credit he later admitted he should have given ) HT THORNABY 1 WHITEHAVEN 1 The home side started better and Early in the second period defensive slackness in the visitors defence and some good forward play lead to Whitehaven taking the lead , the game faded into a midfield battle with Thornaby paying for the lack of numbers on the bench , with the visitors also tiring a late penalty was given when Briggs tripped an attacker sealed the points for Whitehaven and Thornabys efforts were in vain but they once again performed well in first half THORNABY 1 WHITEHAVEN 3
