Stokesley SC 1 Thornaby 3
A strong crossfield wind affected both teams throughout the match. Thornaby took the lead through Gary Mitchell after 30 minutes following a corner which bounced in the box and Mitchell was sharpest to turn and fire into the corner of the net. Shortly after a Stokesley corner was cleared and the hooked back into the box finding the Stokesley number 3 in free space who appeared to be offside. Marc Briggs saved the initial shot but the a team mate was on hand to stab the rebound home from close range. HT 1 - 1.
In the second half both sides struggled to control the game with both keepers making a couple of good saves to keep their teams in the contest. A late substitution saw Danny Lofts come into midfield and within 5 minutes he had put Thornaby back in the lad. With 5 minute remaining Lofts doubled his tally and gave Thornaby some breathing space after a counter attack left Stokesley 3 against 1 at the back. A good win in tough conditions, not the greatest spectacle but a vital 3 points.
