Thornaby took a while to settle against an home side who were on the attack from the start but slowly the visitors began to get their game together and after several deep crosses a good ball from the left by Lee Farrington , found full back Mark Lilley in space at the far post but he shot over with the goal at his mercy ,the visiting forwards Paul Thorns , Gary Mitchell and debutant James Mcleod caused the home defence some problems . Both sides were cancelling each other out in midfield without either side having many chances the visitors looked more likely to score and were holding theor own HT 0-0 The second period followed the same pattern with chances few and far between and the home side scored from a quickly taken free kick rolled to the side to KANE whose long range shot evaded Marc Briggs after 65 mins , however the visitors replied when a good bit of play by sub Lewis Hopson Mark Lilley and James Mcleod lead to Danny Lofts sliding the ball home at the near post after 75 mins , Gary Mitchell then had a great chance to head the winner when an good cross from sub Lewis Hopson went wide after 80 mins , and in the last few minutes only a great tackle by Darren Morton in which he was injured kept the home forwards at bay, a good battling point in a game that could have went either way, throughout the experienced defender Ian Clark was man of match, but a good team effort all the lads defended well and kept to their shape in difficult very warm conditions and an uneven pitch The referee was good and used common sense in the game
