Gillford Park 2 Thornaby 1

I think Gillford came into this game expecting to roll us over and were shocked. The first half we were the better side but as is usual GP took the lead from a looping header from 15 yards following a move down the GP right side. We quickly restored parity when Danny Lofts commited the right back in the box, Gary Mitchell dispatched the penalty sending the keeper the wrong way. HT 1-1. In the second half GP in fairness came back into the game and scored with 10 minutes remaining a very dubious goal on two parts. Firstly a challenge on our goalkeeper, who was at full stretch jumping and was bundled into by the GP centre half, the ball then dropped to the GP striker, who was clearly offside as the referee said it was the centre half who had the last touch if it was not a foul, The striker then (and admittedly) bundled the ball into the net with his hand. FT 2-1.

Im not one to berate referees but both sides players were in agreeance that there were a catalogue of weak, poorly thought out and unjustified decisions and the referee made the match particularly difficult for himself with a lack of rappor and willingness to discuss decisions with players. Good luck to GP in the next round.

well i am still gutted. i thought that it was harsh on us to have been beaten in normal time as i thought that we deserved to take the game to extra time as for there goal it was handball i have tryed to be understanding but we havnt got the major decisions from the refs this season and it happened again last night in our biggest game of the season! anyway unlucky guys i was proud of the performance last night enjoy your saturday off guys!
