GILLFORD PARK 7 THORNABY 2
The first period of play saw the visitors start well but the home side got a well taken goal by Barton which went over keeper OROURKE which against the run of play , Thornaby had a good chance to level but Farrington fired over , the home side then had another chance which somehow a lob from wide left by Barton evaded the visiting keeper to drop over Orourkes head to make it 2-0 . The play remained fairly even till half time G PARK 2 THORNABY 0 HT The second period saw a deflected shot evade Orourke which was quickly followed by another goal 4-0 which saw the younger players in the visiting team lose their way, a demoralised Thornaby leaked another three goals with Mark Lilley Darren Morton, Steve Hodgson and Thad Taylor trying to defend against an barrage of attacks, Marty O riordan worked hard and Paul Thorns before he went off injured after 60 mins replaced by Jake Laverick , in the final ten minutes a great ball by Thad Taylor saw Lee Farrington volley home, then Mark Lilley hit the goal of the game from outside the box to make it 7 -2 too late to prevent another heavy defeat , the reason Far too many regular experienced players missing and the under 17 s who have replaced them are learning quickly what the Northern league is about !!
