Full Time Score Alnwick Town 1-0 Thornaby FC (Ebac Northern League Division 2)
Thoranby travelled to Alnwick Town looking to carry on from Wednesday's Nights 2-1 Win Vs Heaton Stannington while Alnwick were looking to bounce back from last Saturday's 6-1 defeat against Stockton Town.
Thornaby started with the same 11 that beat Heaton Stan in midweek with the only change came on the bench with Gary Mitchell not available so Karl Charlton replaced him on the bench.
Thornaby almost took the lead in bizarre circumstances when Ryan Douglas pass was at a awkward height for Luc Clasper who had to head over the bar. The first proper chance came to Alnwick when Tony Brown's corner from the left found the head of Tom McPherson who headed over the bar. The home side then had the following effort when Samuel Perez's cross found Tony Brown who headed wide. Thornaby created next to nothing in a very poor first half but did have a effort blocked by a defender when Daniel Brunskill's clever ball found Stephen Gamble who took a touch forward but his left footed strike was blocked by a Alnwick defender.
Half Time Alnwick Town 0-0 Thornaby FC
Alnwick continued to look the better side in the match and Gibbs was called into action when Samuel Perez's free kick from 30 yards was needed to be saved. Thornaby seen a effort fly over the bar when Kurtis Howes pass found Mitchell Morris who could only drill over the bar. Alnwick had the next effort when Perez was played through and he tried to chip Gibbs but it went straight into the hands of the keeper. It was no surprise that Alnwick took the lead when SAMUEL PEREZ beat the offside trap and he ran towards goal and Gibbs went down early and the Forward went round the Keeper and tapped into the net with 69 minutes gone. It was almost 2-0 Connor Powell's effort was well saved by Gibbs. Thornaby had there first effort on target with 78 minutes gone when Taylor Crainey's Pass down the right found Daniel Brunskill who turned and shot with Clasper spilling but then gathering the ball at the second attempt. Nothing else happened after that and we came away with a 1-0 Defeat.
Man of the Match:Aaron Foley
Will praise the lads when they play well but will always criticise if we have been poor like we were on Saturday you could not tell that it was the same team that beat Heaton Stannington we were sloppy on the ball and created nothing going forward.
Knowing the lads they will want to put it right vs Ryton & Crawcrook Albion this Wednesday night.
