Thornaby managed a hard fought win against a tough team to beat Whickham, both teams had chances to open the scoring but poor finishing let them down.

It was the visitors who managed to score first on 36 minutes when a corner was headed home by Jordon Fraser, with both sides playing end to end football it was difficult to say who would score next but the home side managed to equalize in the 44th minute when a great through ball into to the path of Karl Charlton was perfectly dispatched into the bottom right corner.

Half Time 1 – 1

The second half was better for Thornaby who started to play some great football only to come against some solid defending by the Whickham defence. This paid off for the home side on 72 Minutes when Gary Mitchell was brought down inside the box and he got up to hit the penalty kick past the Whickham’s keeper.

Thornaby then managed to hold on till the end gaining a valuable 3 points.
