Full time score Thornaby FC 2-0 Horden CW Ebac Northern League Division 2 Att:40

Thornaby welcomed Horden CW to Teesdale Park with the hosts looking to get back to winning ways. Thornaby had a penna appeal when Shaun Joseph went down in the box with the referee Stephen Cavanagh waved away appeals. Thornaby had a chance when James Murphy fired wide. Horden had there first chance which just went wide. Thornaby took the lead when Darren Morton was fouled in the box and Gary Mitchell converted the penna to the keeper's right with Chris Stoker going the wrong way with 29 minutes gone for Thornaby's first home goal off the season. Thornaby had the next chance when Darren Morton played a ball in the air but nobody could get a touch on.

Half time Thornaby 1-0 Horden

The blues had the first chance after good play by Thornaby and Gary Mitchell just fired wide. Shaun Joseph then hit the bar for Thornaby and the Teessiders then made it 2-0 when Michael Joseph knocked the ball across the goal and Gary Mitchell headed home for his 4th goal off the season with 70 minutes gone. Horden had there first chance in the second half when Marty O'riordan fired wide and the blues had a few more chances when Shaun Joseph fired wide and about 2 minutes later Gary Mitchell fired wide and the same player had the next chance when he headed towards goal and a Horden defender cleared off the line and the Teessiders had the next chance when Ritchie Walker played in a corner and Gary Mitchell headed over.

Well that is the best i have seen us play this season as i think we passed the ball well and when Horden got the ball we put some pressure on and won the ball back which is good to see and to be honest we could have had more that two but the main thing was that we played as a team. I think that everyone had a good game and i am really pleased that we have managed to score our first home goals and our first home win of the season and our second clean sheet off the season . Lets keep this up lads as i was really proud off the way we played last night and as for Horden hope they have a good season as the have some top players ,commitee and a top manager . enjoy your weekend off lads you deserve it. Come on thornaby!

nice report Matty thought we controlled most of the game and had we took all our chances it would have been more , but clean sheet and three points was always the objective, best wishes to Peter and the team I am sure they wil do fine with some ex Thornaby players in the ranks RM
