Children from Kirkham Juniors Football Club were showing their delight this week regarding proposed plans for a multi-million pound sports facility.

Kirkham Juniors will be the first to benefit from a state of the art community sports venue, which is hoped to become a centre of sporting excellence for the people of the Fylde Coast. The proposals for Greenlands Sports Village submitted earlier in the year, will offer a fenced off, outdoor floodlit 3G artificial surface and community changing rooms. Plus, four junior and one youth size outdoor grass football pitches which will be available for community use.

The 27 acre site which has been donated to registered charity, The Haythornthwaite Sports Foundation (HSF) by local businessman David Haythornthwaite is intended to provide the type of sporting and community facilities for which a need has been identified and which will complement existing provision.

Kirkham Junior Football Club provides coaching and organised football for youngsters in the Kirkham and Rural Fylde area. The 12 teams run by the club, range from the Mini Soccer Under 8s through to the senior Under 18 Youth Squad and all teams are set to benefit from the new state of the art sports development.

Within the Greenlands Sports Village plans, HSF wish to include a football ground for use by local non-league side AFC Fylde. The new training facility will therefore allow Kirkham’s under 18’s Squad to strengthen ties with the senior team.

Club Secretary, Peter Woods offered his support:

"We are looking forward to being a key partner in the development of the community sports facilities on offer at Greenlands Sports Village.

Kirkham Juniors has over 300 members (both boy and girls aged from 5-18 years of age) the new facilities on offer will be of significant benefit to these children and their families in years to come."
