The Bullets lost 1-4 in their final friendly to a strong Nantwich side but can take real heart from the performance.
For 60 minutes, they more than matched their Unibond Premier League visitors, and it was the Dabbers Keeper who had more to do than his opposite number during the first half when he denied efforts from Skellern and Parkes and just about cleared a looping header from Clarkson. At the other end, Heeps had to turn over a close range effort from Lewis Short but other than that had little to do.
The visitors took the lead straight from the restart when Short sprinted down the left and his cross was knocked back across goal for Wilson to turn and sweep home. Alsager hit back immediately and a short corner routine led to Clarkson heading home unmarked at the far post to level the scores. Nantwich then took a grip on proceedings with Short again the menace when his cross was turned into his own net by Ellis, and then Short passed inside for Wilson to thump home the third goal. The scoring was completed when Wilson managed to get the wrong side of Ellis and although his initial effort was deflected on to the post, he followed up to tap home unchallenged.
A pleasing effort from The Bullets, who played some excellent incisive football in the first half and despite having a number of injuries to deal with, can look forward to the season with some hope.
